Sound Advice Played Through It at Arts in Action

Sound Advice brought Motown and classic soul to Arts in Action on the Port Angeles waterfront - a bonus summer show with one band member playing through an injury.

A quick note before this one - recap posts have been slower to go up than usual. It's been a busy stretch of shoots and processing paid client work, and blog write-ups got pushed down the list. Catching up now.

July 31st was hot and dry across the state, with wildfire smoke building up in pockets further east - the coast stayed mostly clear, but the air had that thick, late-summer heaviness to it by evening. Good conditions for a bonus waterfront show.

Sound Advice is an Olympic Peninsula band built around Motown, classic soul, and 60s-70s favorites - Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin - the kind of set list that gets a mixed-age waterfront crowd moving without much convincing.

The detail that stuck with me: the singer teaches piano, and her right pinky was bandaged up the whole set - some injury from earlier in the week, from what I gathered. She played through it anyway, full set, no visible favoring. That's the kind of dedication that doesn't show up unless you're close enough with a camera to notice.

Two bonus concerts on top of the regular Wednesday series this summer - that's a lot of free music in Port Angeles, and this one was worth catching.
